Naturally there are no pictures available of the actual tools from 1989, especially when they only appeared on NYW twice. Still, here’s a pretty good likeness of the Sears router table Norm used on two projects (and much closer than the image I had here for a while).
In both cases the auxiliary fence was a little higher, so the bit guard was not visible.
