In the very first appearance of the Hitachi M12V router, Norm used it with the edge guide. Its function is identical to any other router edge guide and its appearance actually looks similar to the Makita edge guide featured elsewhere.
The part on the right attaches to the part on the left with the nut at bottom, which also allows for adjustment. The rails slip into holes in the router base and are secured with other nuts.
