Sheet Metal Brake

Appearances: Episode 9807

This won't appear in any of the tool lists as it's not really Norm's tool, but since Larry Stearns brought it down from Vermont to make the Cupola roof and some people might not know much about brakes, I thought I'd put up something.

Also called a box brake or pan brake, the gray things are “teeth” and can be adjusted to provide sections of various widths, and which provide clearance for sides when bending sheet metal to form a box or pan.

The red handles move the bank of teeth up and down to clamp the stock in place to prevent shifting. The green handles (shown in the dropped position and at a slight angle from the support frame) are attached to a hinged panel which is used to do the actual bending. The process is readily seen in the video and is easier to grasp than this short description.
